When starting this blog my main focus was to document my journey, and I know that there will be highs and lows, but I wanted today to document that sometimes things don’t go to plan, or doctors sometimes don’t agree with each other. Trust your gut, and always ask the questions if you need to.
My consultant suggested I had an “up to date” smear as my last one was Jan 2019 so not overly out-of date. However, my periods have returned to more “normal” than before and I have had some type of mid-cycle random bleeding / spotting, so I had gone to the GP to get it checked out just as Coronavirus hit – so another trip to the Gynae for them to look has been delayed as they’re still not open.
Back in 2012 I had LLETZ treatment on my cervix to remove CIN3 cells. I’ve not had any issues since and I am back to my 3-yearly smears, my bleeding could be linked to that surgery on my cervix.
My GP received the letter, and the GP and Nurse are both in agreement that Cytology would likely refuse a smear for me, unless I had been recalled – as I was no over-due.
A couple of calls back and forth to the clinic, and a different consultant said that it shouldn’t be a problem – but they’ve documented it on my notes.
Having had Endometriosis problems for the last 17 years (diagnosed 13 years ago) then a having another smear was going to be the least of my problems – enough doctors and nurses have seen down there!
So bloods it is! Another armful will probably be taken within the next week or so! This will be to check my Vitamin D, Folate, Full Blood Count, Thyroid, Liver Function, Kidney Function and I think thats it! Thats on top of what I had done on Monday!
