I didn’t sleep all that well last night – partly cos I was so uncomfortable with how big my ovaries felt – but not only that – my mother was coughing. She was told at approximately 1:30am that she got a drink – or smothered – that was her choice! She had a drink and she stopped coughing! (Imagine that!)
It took me ages to then get comfy (again) and fall asleep and then I was rudely awoke with my alarm at 6:45am!
I then got up – took off the clear top-coat nail polish I had on that I forgot to take off the night before – teeth brushed and dressed and ready for off!

I had a pre-booked a taxi to take me the 5 minute drive from the hotel – and was at the hospital for 7:50am, I didn’t need to be there until 8:30am but better to be early! As soon as I got into the theatre waiting room I was called in and checked in my one of the lovely nurses.
She was surprised, but thought it was great that I had gone to the hospital alone. Obviously, i needed collecting, but I left my mum in bed (awake) cos what was the point in her coming with me, when she couldn’t stay on the unit. She also commented about how super chilled out I was too.
I was the second on the list for the day and the doctor, anaesthetist and embryologist all popped to see me to go through some bits – before I was chilling just waiting to go down.
They came to get me, mask on, flip-flops and dressing gown on and I walked into the unit. I sat on the bed where the anaesthetist tried to get a vein in the back of my hand (I told him earlier I was awkward) and he did eventually get it in but GOSH it hurt (a lot!).
I then had to sit on the bed but wiggle my bum to the end, and the nurse helping me kept making sure my modesty was covered I mean I’m not sure why – the Doctor was gonna see it sometime soon anyway.
So, I knew my legs would be in stirrups, I’ve had my legs in them before (yay gynae issues) but I was NOT expecting the bed that was the egg retireval bed. The stirriups were almost black bars, wrapped in some form of soft black material, and the stirrups were then like soft loops that you hung your legs through…it reminded me of something you’d see in a sex dungeon or from 50 shades of grey…definately not something I was expecting from my fertility clinic!
The Doctor checked my name and D.O.B and then the embrologist in her little hatch (think of those hatches in old houses between kitchen and dining room) double checked everything was the same and we were good to go.
A few different vials of things were syringed into the back of my hand, and I remember telling them I could feel it working. Whilst the doctor was “dressing” my bottom half ready for her to begin.
She put something over one leg it was quite a heavy ish material, and all I could think of it reminded me of what a Vet put his arm in when he’s going to try and help a cow give birth….then she did another then she threw a bit over me….and I don’t remember much else…
I remember starting to come around a little bit with the embrologist shouting “EGG” so I knew they’d got at least one. In my half sleepy state I remember hearing someone say they had 9, but I was still a bit dazed, was slid across the bed and wheeled into recovery.
I felt, I came around quite quickly, drink of water, sit up, my legs were HURTING from being in the egg retrieval contraption – got up, walked and then ate my yummy Egg Mayo Sandwich, sat up, drink a ton more, and finally went for a wee.
They were waiting for the paperwork to come through from the lab before they could discharge me, but I was like “I think I heard them say they got 9” so the nurse went to check and confirmed that they did!
WOW…9!! AMAZING…

Dressed, chatting to friends on facebook and begging them to take the now super painful cannula out – and I could get my mum to collect me…!
We came back to the hotel, where I took some paracetamol, hot water bottle them promptly slept for almost 2 hours before popping out to the pub for some yummy food!
I almost sneezed earlier…boy that was NOT fun but other than that I’m not feeling too bad! π
Now its just waiting for a call to see what have fertilised! EEEK!

9 eggs is brilliant! Fingers crossed π€ x
