Hello & Welcome

So, where should I start to introduce Solo Mum Overload.

Here am I, 35, single female with the dream of being a mummy, a dream that I’ve always had. However, I have spent the majority of the last 8 years single – through choice.

I live on my own, have my own business, own my own house, yet whenever conversations come around (mainly at Weddings and Funerals) about “when are you going to settle down?” Or… “you aren’t getting any younger” I started telling people that it didn’t matter because if I got to 35 and I’d not met anyone I was going to have a sperm donor and do it myself.

And here we are.

When I was little I remember saying that I wanted to be a mummy, but it didn’t matter if I didn’t get married or not. So I obviously knew back then that I was going to be an independant woman.

When you go looking for “having a baby on your own” you see a lot of things about sperm donation, AI vs NI* or as a lot of people say – just go out on a night out and see what happens.

Unfortuantely, that doesn’t work when you have “lady problems” and here I am needing Sperm, with Endometriosis, and knowing that my journey to motherhood won’t be as simple as a quick bunk up with a random drunk person on a Saturday Night Out in Town.

Being a Solo Mum through Choice isn’t quite as simple as people think it is and there isn’t much out there about people who have chosen this route. So I thought I’d make a start, and detail my journey into becomming a solo mummy by choice.
