Start of the journey…

Today’s blog is about how I started the journey to be a solo mum. As I mentioned in “Hello & Welcome” it was always the “plan” if I hadn’t met anyone by the time I turned 35 I was going to have a donor and do it alone. I had said it so much, I think the universe actually listened to me.

After looking into adoption, and visiting The Fertility Show I gathered up so much information and was able to make my decision, on which clinic I wanted to choose and what my next steps were.

As a solo mum to be I was always under the impression that I would need to pay for everything. Every scan. Every blood test. Every clinic appointment. When actually thanks to the consultant that I am under, who I had spoken to at The Fertility Show, I was happy to find out that I could be referred to them via my GP (they do NHS and Private patients) and that I was able to get things within the process, but I would move to a private patient as soon as treatment was decided on.

Phew.

I spoke to the clinic to find out exactly what would be needed from my GP to support my referral, which wasn’t too much, but some bloods, some swabs and a referring letter stating as a single lady I wanted to look into fertility treatment.

I gathered everything to head to the GP expecting a fight on my hands, and she was like “Ok thats fine – do you have a list of tests they require” it was so simple!

My appointment came through from the clinic in around 6 weeks, and thats when the process began. And that was 12 months ago today.

I ended up with a couple of scans, more bloods a follow up appointment and a mandatory counselling appointment when using some form of Donor.

The only reason it had taken “as long” as it has, is due me waiting for surgery with my Endometriosis Specialist which I had in February.

It’s been on the cards now for a year, 12 months ago, and now I’m counting down!
